Bill moon and his wife dreamed of opening a truck stop in the 1960s, and spent nearly 30 years saving money and purchasing land. On October 12, 1987, the Joplin 44 opened for the first time. It featured a convenience store, trucker store, fuel center, full service restaurant, gas islands, a lube center, and 350 concrete truck parking spots. Since then, the Joplin 44 Truck Stop has continued to expand, opening a hotel and a Super Truck Showroom. It’s definitely a sight worth seeing, even if you’re just passing through Joplin.
